"The World Rose Convention 2006 in Osaka will offer unique opportunities for rosarians from abroad to encounter a rich historical and horticultural legacy, as well as Japan's indigenous roses.
Japan has had a long history of roses. Literary works from the 10th and 11th centuries note that Chinese roses named "Koshin" (the name suggests "every 60 days" and thus their remontancy) were grown in the gardens of Japanese noblemen of the day. Since then, roses have been grown and loved by the Japanese. In the 1950's, when new varieties of modern roses were imported from Europe and America, they almost became a fad in Japan and the rose has been one of the most cherished flowers of the Japanese since then..."
